Bamboo school
The Bamboo School is located on the border between Thailand and Myanmar. Built entirely from bamboo, the school provides education for children of immigrant families who are stateless and have no legal rights.
Denied access to Thai public schools, these children rely on the Bamboo School as their only opportunity to receive an education. Their parents work precariously in rubber plantations and factories, making it impossible to afford traditional school fees.
Tuition at the Bamboo School is free, and parents contribute a small plate of rice each day, which the school supplements with additional nutrients—often providing the only full meal these children receive.
In addition to education, the school conducts outreach programs to help children obtain legal documents from Thai authorities, addressing one of the key barriers to their rights and future opportunities.
