Offering young people a second chance:
the HOPE Project in the Philippines
In the Philippines, the juvenile justice system does not adequately distinguish between adults and minors in conflict with the law, often forcing young people to serve their sentences in the same institutions as adults.
Many of these youths come from situations of abuse, neglect, and extreme poverty, and they experience further trauma in a system ill-suited to their needs, which severely limits their opportunities for social reintegration.
To address this urgent issue, the De La Salle Brothers launched Project HOPE, a rehabilitation and reintegration program at the De La Salle Bahay Pag-asa Center in Dasmariñas. Here, young people find a safe environment with access to education, vocational training (carpentry, plumbing, culinary arts), and workshops designed to develop essential life skills such as communication, decision-making, and financial literacy.
Aligned with the Lasallian mission of faith, service, and community, Project HOPE offers these youths a real opportunity for renewal, demonstrating that with the right support, every young person can transform their future.
