Thanks to the solidarity of our entire community, 210,000 euros have been raised for the renovation of the Saint Joseph and Stella Maris schools in Toamasina, Madagascar, affected by Cyclone Gezani. The works are now underway.

Saint Joseph School is the smallest and welcomes around 250 students. To allow the works to begin, the library, the dining hall, and other administrative rooms have been converted into classrooms, where students continue attending classes as usual until the end of the school year.

At the same time, the works are focused on rebuilding the damaged structures. Where possible, materials that are still in good condition are recovered and reused, and waterproofing works are also being carried out to make the buildings more resistant to rain and future climatic events.

Stella Maris School is the largest and extends like a true campus, welcoming around 2,000 students. The renovation is progressing in phases: as soon as a building is completed, students return to their classes in it, which frees up another building where works can begin. In this way, reconstruction can move forward without interrupting school activities.

Throughout this period, the Lasallian family has never stopped supporting the local community by distributing food aid and educational materials to the most affected families.

Thanks to everyone who has joined in solidarity in response to the emergency affecting our communities in Madagascar and for being part of this journey of reconstruction and hope that continues every day.
